Environmental Impact - Deforestation
-

Almost 42% of wood harvested globally is used to make paper, leading to Deforestation. The use of so many trees to make paper is of major concern since 50% of all terrestrial carbon is stored in trees.

Doesn’t it feel like every day we are bombarded with more bad news about the planet? Rising oceans. Warming climates. Ecosystem impact, and more. None of it good for us, or polar bears.

-
- Paper Production: Very water intensive, 324 litres of water required to produce 1KG of paper.
- Transportation: Most paper comes from Russia, Finland, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, India and China. From there its transported to local printers and then the printed cards are shipped to different customer addresses.
- Printing and Packaging: Processes for coating paper, including the actual printing. The ink used for printing uses various types of toxic chemicals. Packaging / boxes for printed cards.
- End-of-Life: 90% of paper business cards end up in a landfill. Paper decomposes releasing methane gas that is over 20 times more potent a greenhouse gas than CO2. Paper comprises 50% of business waste, 33% of municipal waste and 25% of waste going to landfills.
